Description

Natural Australian Black Opal Teardrop Ring

Dark, luminous and completely individual, these extraordinary rings showcase the ever-changing colour of natural Australian opal.

Each opal has been colour enhanced with a black dye treatment, deepening the stone's body colour and creating a dramatic backdrop for its natural play of colour. Against the darker base, flashes of electric blue, vivid green, turquoise, violet, fiery red and orange appear and disappear as the stone catches the light.

No two are alike – and for this release, you can choose the exact opal that will be yours.

✨ See your opal come alive

Our photographs were taken in natural daylight, where these incredible stones truly come alive. If your opal appears more subtle indoors, take it outside into natural light and slowly move your hand. You'll see the flashes captured in our photographs appear – and often discover so many more. As the light and angle change, your opal will reveal different colours, flashes and patterns. That's all part of its magic.

Choose Your Exact Ring

We have just 12 individual rings available, with three one-of-a-kind opals in each size: 7, 8, 9 and 10.

Because the colour and pattern of natural opal can vary so dramatically from stone to stone, we have individually photographed every ring in this collection. When you select your size and opal variant, the ring shown in the photograph is the exact ring you will receive.

Some stones burn with intense reds and oranges. Others reveal pools of blue, green, turquoise and violet. Many shift between several colours depending on the angle and light. Each has been chosen for its own beautiful character, and each individual ring is available only once.

Once your chosen opal has sold, that exact stone is gone.

The Opal

At the centre of each ring is a genuine natural Australian opal, approximately 7 x 9mm, shaped into an elegant pear-shaped teardrop and finished with a faceted surface that catches and reflects the light.

Unlike a naturally occurring black opal, these stones begin as natural Australian opal and are dyed black / colour enhanced. The treatment darkens the body of the stone, creating striking contrast and allowing its individual flashes of colour to stand out beautifully.

The result is a moody, jewel-toned opal that seems to transform as you move it – with every stone displaying its own completely unique combination of colour and pattern.

Designed to Let the Opal Shine

The opal is held in a minimal four-claw setting, allowing the teardrop silhouette and extraordinary colour of the stone to remain the focus.

A fine band of solid 925 sterling silver gives the ring its delicate profile, finished with platinum plating for a bright, cool-toned polish that beautifully complements the darker opal.

About your gemstone certificate

Each ring includes one of the original gemstone identification certificates supplied with this collection by the Gem Appraisal Center of Peking University. Your certificate may therefore show a different individual ring; however, all certificates were supplied with this same collection.

One Stone. One Ring. Completely Yours.

Opal is a gemstone unlike almost any other. Its colours shift with the light, revealing flashes and patterns that can look completely different from one moment to the next. Traditionally the birthstone of October, it's a stone celebrated for its extraordinary colour and individuality.

Your ring will arrive presented in our signature Indie and Harper gift box with an organic cotton pouch, carefully packed by our small team in Melbourne.

Only 12 rings are available. Choose your favourite opal from the individual photographs – the exact ring you select is the one that will be yours.

Meaning and Symbolism

Opal is traditionally associated with hope, transformation and inner vision. Its shifting colours are believed to encourage intuition, creativity and confidence during new beginnings. Sourced from Australia, every natural opal has its own distinctive colour and pattern, giving each ring individual character.

Product FAQs

Q: Is this a natural or lab-created opal?
A: The opal is natural and sourced from Australia; it is not lab-created. Its colour has been enhanced through dyeing, and every stone varies in colour, pattern and intensity.

Q: What is the ring made from?
A: Solid 925 sterling silver with platinum plating, which creates a bright polished finish and helps slow tarnishing. As with all plated jewellery, the finish may gradually wear over time.

Q: Is this ring waterproof?
A: No. To protect the colour-enhanced opal and platinum plating, remove the ring before showering, swimming, exercising or using household chemicals.

Q: How do I care for my opal ring?
A: Store it somewhere cool and dry, away from direct heat and prolonged sunlight. Avoid perfume, lotions and chemicals, and do not soak it or use silver cleaner, steam or ultrasonic cleaning. Wipe gently with a soft, dry cloth after wear.
