How to measure your ring size

1. Visit a jeweller

This is the most accurate method. Ask a local jeweller to measure the finger on which you plan to wear the ring.

2. Measure a ring that fits

  1. Choose a ring that fits the correct finger.
  2. Measure straight across the inside of the ring at its widest point.
  3. Do not include the metal edges.
  4. Match the inside diameter in millimetres to the chart below.

3. Measure your finger

  1. Use our printable ring sizer, or wrap a narrow strip of paper around your finger.
  2. Keep it snug without pulling it tight.
  3. Mark where the ends meet and measure the length in millimetres.
  4. Use the circumference column in the chart below.

Between two sizes? Choose the larger size. Rings with a wide band generally feel tighter than fine bands, so you may also prefer a slightly larger size.

Tips for an accurate measurement

  • Measure the exact finger where the ring will be worn.
  • Measure at the end of the day when fingers are usually at their largest.
  • Avoid measuring when your hands are unusually cold, hot or swollen.
  • Measure two or three times before choosing your size.
  • Make sure the ring or paper sizer can pass comfortably over your knuckle.
  • For a surprise gift, measure a ring worn on the same finger.

Ring sizing FAQs

What should I do if I am between ring sizes?

Choose the larger size. A ring that is slightly loose is generally more comfortable than one that is too tight.

Are ring sizes the same in every country?

No. Australia and the UK use letters, while the USA and Canada use numbers. Use the conversion chart above to find the corresponding US size.

Does band width affect the fit?

Yes. Wide bands often feel tighter than fine bands. If you are choosing a wide ring or stacking several rings together, you may prefer a slightly larger size.

Is measuring with string accurate?

String can stretch or twist, so a narrow strip of paper or the printable ring sizer is more reliable. Professional measurement by a jeweller remains the most accurate option.
