Copper, copper, copper! It's everywhere.
The metallic trend is one that has come and stayed for the long haul, and we here at Indie and Harper are absolutely loving it!
Copper Jewellery is a unique play on traditional jewellery, in the sense that it breaks the boundaries by being raw, organic and more often than not stands out amongst other pieces.
Read on for all our copper jewellery know-hows and information on how to care for your pieces.
What is all the copper fuss?
Copper jewellery has been around since the earliest of civilizations.
Copper is loved as its vibrant colour, uniqueness and wow-factor turns any jewellery lovers collection into one that is edgy and one-of-a-kind. A process called electro-forming is what helps create our unique copper jewellery...
What is electro-forming you may ask?
Electroforming is a step by step process whereby gemstones are first coated with a conductive paint and then submerged in a copper-rich electrochemical solution for approximately six to twenty-four hours.
During the electroforming process copper molecules are attracted to the conductive paint to then form a copper bezel which transforms them into their own unique piece. To finalise the process each piece is then tumbled, blackened and buffed to create the beautiful jewels our Indie and Harper customers are purchasing.
Looks aren't everything...
Copper is known as a natural healer, some people will seek out natural copper to help relieve pain, more specifically pain associated with arthritis, bursitis and rheumatism as well as improving circulatory functions and reducing inflammation.
Copper metal boosts healing properties of other stones it’s paired with by acting as an amplifier to their metaphysical qualities, so any of your favourite gemstone’s qualities will be enhanced further if paired with raw copper.
Traces of copper are found all throughout the human body, so it only makes sense that we react to it in such an enriching and positive way.
The many benefits...
Copper has many hidden benefits that apply to all walks of life, here are some of it’s main benefits:
-
Copper balances the root and sacral chakras.
-
Promotes the energies of intuition, sensuality and vitality
-
Provides a connection between the physical and spiritual bodies
-
Combats passivity, lethargy, restlessness and lack of self-acceptance while encouraging optimism, diplomacy and confidence
-
Provides a clear harmonic energy, free of restrictions and bias, guiding you into a balanced sense of self and your place in the world.
It's not easy being green!
Help! Why is my finger turning green?
This is a question jewellers often hear, and trust us, it’s not just because your skin is green with envy over your new jewels! Copper can react with certain skin types and may turn them a slight shade of green, depending on your Ph. Copper oxidises when it comes into contact with sweat glands, this can produce a green stain - unfortunately, it is a completely normal and natural effect.
Other factors that may bring on this type of reaction is the amount of meat we consume, the skin products we use, and the humidity levels of where we live. T
o help prevent the lean, mean, green reaction we recommend ensuring your skin is dry when wearing your copper jewelry, wipe the jewelry before and after use, and, to help re-seal, simply paint a thin coat of clear varnish over the band. Voilah!
